Toyota is introducing its new Yaris Cross model to the Argentine market. The vehicle will be produced at the company's plant in Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, and should not be confused with the Yaris Cross sold in the European and Japanese markets, which has different dimensions and technical specifications.
One of the key features of the Toyota Yaris Cross coming to Argentina is that it will be offered with two types of engines: a traditional 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a hybrid version combined with an electric power unit. This is rare for B-segment (small) SUVs and provides greater travel range, as well as cost savings due to the engine's higher efficiency.
Buyers in the City of Buenos Aires will benefit from the exemption scheme proposed by the City Government: it stipulates that hybrid vehicles (combining an electric motor with a combustion engine) pay half the standard license fee and also pay 50% of the toll value on the city's highways.
Regarding dimensions, although Toyota has not yet officially confirmed them, the Yaris Cross is expected to be 4.31 meters long, 1.77 meters wide, 1.65 meters high, have a wheelbase of 2.62 meters, and a trunk capacity of 471 liters. Additionally, it will be more robust and have a greater ground clearance than the current European and Asian versions.
Engine and Technical Specifications Although Toyota Argentina has not yet officially confirmed the technical specifications of the Yaris Cross, based on the Brazilian market, it can be inferred that there will be two types of engine and three models in the range (base, mid-range, and top).
Mechanics: As mentioned earlier, the Toyota Yaris Cross will offer two powertrain combinations, always with front-wheel drive and paired with a CVT automatic transmission with seven pre-programmed gears.
Gasoline Engine: 1.5 liters (four-cylinder) 106 HP Maximum speed: 170 km/h Fuel consumption: 8.3 l/100 km in the city / 7.7 l/100 km on the highway Tank: 42 liters
Hybrid Engine: Gasoline engine 1.5 liters, 92 HP Electric motor: 59 kW Combined power (both motors): 115 HP Fuel consumption: 5.2 l/100 km in the city / 6.2 l/100 km on the highway Tank: 36 liters
Safety: The Toyota Yaris Cross produced in Japan participated in safety tests conducted by Asean NCAP, and although the model coming to Argentina will not be the same, it will feature a similar safety equipment package, including six airbags in all versions (base, mid-range, and top).
In a changing market like Argentina's '0 km' car market—fragmented by the value of the dollar and with prices adjusted monthly for inflation—all users are carefully scrutinizing where to place their money, and the arrival of an economical SUV with an excellent price-to-quality ratio is generating significant interest among dealers.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the SUV is set to officially debut in Argentina in February 2026: the Toyota Yaris Cross, a B-segment (small) model that will complement the Japanese brand's lineup, which already includes the Corolla Cross (C-segment, compact) and SW4 (D-segment, large) SUVs.
In this way, the Toyota Yaris Cross will become the cheapest SUV that Toyota will offer in Argentina in a segment with intense competition: models like the Chevrolet Tracker, Nissan Kicks Play, Peugeot 2008, and Volkswagen T-Cross, to name a few, have been recording interesting patent numbers this year, according to data from the Argentine Association of Automotive Dealers (ACARA).
Although Toyota has not yet officially confirmed the price of the Yaris Cross in Argentina, it is expected to be positioned below the Corolla Cross SUV and relatively close to the current prices of the Corolla (sedan for the C-segment, compact), which is attracting thousands of users.
For reference, a Toyota Corolla costs between $38 and $48 million, and a Toyota Corolla Cross costs between $46 and $57 million in Argentina.
All models will also be equipped with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as: Autonomous emergency braking Forward collision warning and lane departure warning Stability and traction control Rear-view camera and parking sensors
Comfort and Connectivity: Floating central media screen: Approximately 10.1-inch central screen. Digital instrument cluster: A 7-inch digital instrument panel. LED headlights: Efficient and modern lighting. Automatic climate control: Interior temperature control. Smart key: Keyless access and start. Retractable side mirrors: Automatically fold.
Toyota Yaris Cross: The versions that would arrive in Argentina Currently, the Toyota Yaris Cross has three versions for the Brazilian market, which will likely be replicated in Argentina.
